Special Achievement Award 2024

Industry applauds Paul Anderson, MD of Meiko UK, at the 2024 waste2zero Foodservice Waste Management & Prevention Awards, presented by foodservice publisher Footprint Intelligence.

Paul Anderson, Managing Director of Meiko UK, has been awarded the 2024 waste2zero Special Achievement Award.

“This year’s Special Achievement Award winner has boundless energy driving the sustainability agenda in the sector. He’s not just talked the talk but has very much walked the walk, from commissioning research and chairing relevant industry committees, steering groups, and associations to R&D to significant investment into his organisation's Green Brand,” reads the citation.

“This Award is sponsored by Bunzl Catering Supplies and celebrates the achievements of an individual who has dedicated demonstrable and extraordinary effort to the advancement of the waste agenda in food service and hospitality; people who have invested a great deal of energy in the development of more sustainable waste solutions or business models to benefit the industry altruistically.

“Paul Anderson has gone over and above, and his business is making significant strides in contributing to the food service and hospitality sector's sustainability agenda.”

The annual Footprint Intelligence waste2zero awards are highly prestigious recognition from the catering industry. They give the out-of-home sector a platform to showcase best practices and highlight excellence in waste management and prevention, particularly caterers' and catering suppliers' efforts and successes in combating climate change.

Charles Miers, co-CEO and founder of FOOTPRINT MEDIA GROUP said, “Enormous congratulations to Paul Anderson and Meiko. This award is thoroughly deserved.”

Explained Footprint Media Group: “The award was presented by an elite panel of judges, experts in waste, packaging, and sustainability, who reviewed innovations and initiatives from organisations large and small in areas such as resource management, closed loop, recycling, and food redistribution.

“Clear leadership is evident from some organisations in the sector who are demonstrating operational strategies that reduce waste impacts to the environment up and down supply chains.”

Paul Anderson responded, “It is truly an honour and very flattering to be recognised by our industry.

“As a responsible supplier, Meiko is doing everything possible to promote sustainability in our customer framework.

“Meiko produces the most sustainable and well-thought-out dishwashing and food waste recycling equipment. But Meiko, the manufacturer, and Meiko UK have both recognised that we all need to do more than make, sell, service and maintain great kit!

“Meiko is devoting increasing resources to meet our pledge to provide sustainability training support for our customers over the lifetime of their Meiko machines. Equipment manufacturers and suppliers must take a more proactive approach to ensure our customers use the tools we give them in the most sustainable way.”

The UK catering equipment industry has also recognised Meiko UK's sustainability drive. Meiko was voted SUSTAINABILITY SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR in the Catering Insight Awards 2024.
